The Art of Loving by Erich Fromm
A philosophical and psychological exploration of love, emphasizing how men (and people in general) can cultivate deeper, more mature love.

The Eden Project: In Search of the Magical Other by James Hollis
A profound deep dive perspective around the longing for “other”, it’s origins and all of the different ways it plays out in individual, relational and group/society contexts. It is a small, but mighty book that will require taking your time to absorb.

The Flying Boy by John Lee
A personal, beautiful, and raw account of growing up with an alcoholic, abusive father and its challenging, crippling ripple effects it has throughout life and relationships. A short, easy read that will be related to many. Be sure to read the follow-up books he wrote: The Wounded Lover and At My Father’s Wedding.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
Although not exclusively a men’s book, it has profoundly impacted personal growth and spiritual awakening, offering wisdom in an easy, approachable format on how to live with integrity and authenticity.

Facing the Lion, Being the Lion: Finding Inner Courage Where it Lives by Mark Nepo
Though not often talked about or given credit within the men's work movement, this is an incredible book that dives into courage and inspiration on how to stand by one’s core. Broken down into short chapters, this is a joy to read and certainly one that will have you rereading time and again.

Fire in the Belly by Sam Keen
One of the most important books written on men, Keen covers it all in this classic book that provides context, humor, and depth into all corners of the experience of being a man. The book covers our past, present, and a poignant look into the future.

He: Understanding Masculine Psychology by Robert A. Johnson
A deep dive into the psychological aspects of masculinity, exploring key archetypes and the emotional challenges that men face.

Iron John: A Book About Men by Robert Bly
Often referred to as the “OG” of the men’s work movement, this book explores the myth of Iron John to illustrate the psychological journey of men.

King, Warrior, Magician, Lover by Robert Moore & Douglas Gillette
A groundbreaking book that has influenced all corners of the movement, it identifies and dives into detail the four archetypes of mature masculinity and helps men explore their emotional and psychological growth.

The Lion Tracker’s Guide to Life by Boyd Varty
A newer, short book with profound insights, all inspired by a journey into the jungle tracking the king of the jungle. This book offers a simple, yet inspiring pathway forward in navigating life, drawing inspiration from nature and living in the moment.

Living an Examined Life: Wisdom for the Second Half of Life by James Hollis
A beautifully laid out, relatively short book that is packed with a tremendous amount of wisdom, insight and thought provoking inquires for the reader. Highly recommend for anyone who is in a transition/stuck phase of life and is looking for an infusion of inspiration and guidance.

Men’s Work by Connor Beaton
A modern (published in 2023) book on men’s work written from a personal perspective with a tremendous amount of helpful prompts and integration at the end of each chapter. A great book that covers all of the traditional topics of men’s work with more modern examples and issues.

The Way of the Superior Man by David Deida
A cutting-edge (particularly at the time) modern classic on relationships, purpose, and spiritual growth, helping men understand their role in relationships and their personal journey. This book has a no-bullshit approach to taking ownership of your life and what it means to embody divine masculinity.

Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior by Chögyam Trungpa
A Buddhist-inspired approach to masculinity, this book combines spiritual wisdom and warrior ethics to guide men on a path of self-mastery, courage, and wisdom.

The Way of the Wild Heart by John Eldredge
A spiritual roadmap for the masculine journey, Eldredge’s book illuminates the central themes and issues men face and brings them to life with reverence, insight, and a spiritual tilt.

You Are Here by Thich Nhat Hanh
Naturally, there are many titles you could choose from the brilliant mind of the Buddhist monk, but this is a simple, straightforward book that highlights core principles of mindfulness, presence, and how to be in relation with self and others.

  • Mankind Project (MKP)
    The most extensive network for men’s work in the world. A global nonprofit offering personal development programs like the "New Warrior Training Adventure" to help men grow emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Has weekends and trainings all over the world. 

  • Sacred Sons
    The Newer kids on the block, focused on bringing men’s work into the public eye. Focuses on brotherhood, healing, and empowerment through immersive retreats and workshops rooted in indigenous practices and modern teachings. They offer a wide range of events throughout the world and just recently hosted their first co-ed event.

  • ManTalks
    A platform focusing on self-improvement, relationships, and leadership for men through workshops, events, and a podcast.

  • Gene Keys
    Gene Keys is a personal development system created by Richard Rudd that blends astrology, human design, and the I Ching. It offers a transformative approach to self-discovery, focusing on unlocking one's potential through contemplation of 64 archetypes, or "Gene Keys," to foster spiritual growth and healing.

  • Allison Armstrong
    Allison Armstrong is a renowned relationship expert and author who focuses on understanding and improving the dynamics between men and women. Through her courses, workshops, and books, she offers insights into masculine and feminine energies, communication, and how to create deeper, more harmonious relationships.

  • Men's Shed Association
    A grassroots movement offering safe spaces for men to socialize, build community, and improve mental health through practical projects and shared activities.

  • Al-Anon
    Al-Anon is a support organization for friends and family members of individuals struggling with alcohol addiction. It provides a safe, understanding community where members can share experiences, strength, and hope, helping them cope with the challenges of living with an alcoholic and fostering personal growth and healing.
